Browns Offseason Roster Deep Dive – iOL

Welcome back to the sixth installment of the series. I am taking a deep dive into the Browns roster and how they can best fill the holes in their roster. Each day I will be releasing a different position room.

For every position room, I have outlined how the NFL structures that position on the roster. I’ve also tried to predict the variation from the norm due to a Stefanski offense. The players we have in four categories: starter, rotation (play some snaps), depth (injury backup/special teams) and other (likely cut). Then I will lay out the options currently on the roster, available in FA as well as via the draft for all 53 spots.

Interior Offensive Line

The average NFL team has 9.0 OLs on their roster. The five interior spots are made from the three starters as well as two backup players. It is important to make sure at least one of the backup players have experience snapping the ball. Ideally it would be good to have three players with who give you that option.

Starting LG: Joel Bitonio
Starting C: JC Tretter
Starting RG: Drew Forbes/Wyatt Teller

Roster – The Browns have their starters locked in a LG and C for the next three years. At RG there will be an exciting battle between Forbes and Teller to see who is the starter and who becomes the backup. Both players have the upside to fulfil the role.

FA – While some may call for a FA addition at RG, the options of Brandon Scherff and Graham Glasgow could cost between $15m-$10m put them out of our price range.

Depth iOL: Drew Forbes/Wyatt Teller

Roster – Whoever does not start at RG will offer a solid option as backup. There have been rumors about Forbes being able to snap the ball but we will have to wait until more information comes to light.

Depth C: ?

Roster – The 5th role in the interior OL is someone who can play at C. They could believe that Willie Wright is the guy. They will likely want to add more pieces to the room before he could potentially win out in camp.

FA – They could look to FA where a player such as Austin Blythe of the Rams would provide the depth they want.

Draft – The third option would be to give someone a shot late on day three of the draft or pick up an UDFA and see who wins a battle at camp.

Others : Colby Gossett, Malcolm Pridgeon, Willie Wright
