We’re less than two weeks before free agency starts in the NFL but the rumors are starting to swirl.
The Browns are being tied to the top free agents at the wide receiver position and another name that will soon become a free agent.
Zac Jackson and Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported on Friday that Cleveland will be interested in soon-to-be free agent Amari Cooper, who will likely be released by the Dallas Cowboys in the coming days. They are also expressing interest in Tampa Bay’s Chris Godwin, Los Angeles’ Mike Williams, and Chicago’s Allen Robinson who will all become unrestricted free agents on March 16 with the “legal tampering” period starting on March 14.
Cleveland is looking to upgrade their wide receiver room after a lackluster 2021 season that saw no wide receiver on the roster exceed 600 yards, Odell Beckham Jr. forcing his way out to sign with the Los Angeles Rams, and Jarvis Landry dealt with injuries and the worst season of his professional career.
Landry is expected to be released before free agency opens as he’s due $16.3 million leaving the room with third-year receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones and second-year player Anthony Schwartz along with second-year player Demetric Felton who is a hybrid as he also plays running back.
Cooper had 65 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games for the Cowboys last season. Godwin had 98 receptions for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games for the Buccaneers before tearing his ACL in Week 15 against New Orleans. Williams had 76 receptions for 1,146 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games for the Chargers. Robinson had 38 receptions for 410 yards and one touchdown in 12 games for the Bears.
