Another injury has hit the quarterback room.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders suffered an oblique strain during Wednesday’s joint practice session with the Philadelphia Eagles.
This is an absolute momentum killer for Sanders, coming off his impressive performance in the preseason opener against Carolina last Friday, going 14 of 23 for 138 yards and two touchdowns in his first professional football appearance.
Sanders, who currently sits fourth on the unofficial team depth chart, did not participate in any drills after suffering the injury, which many didn’t realize happened until reports surfaced following the joint practice session.
The Browns have already had Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel suffer hamstring injuries, which have limited them throughout training camp. However, Gabriel appears closer to a return and could be available for Saturday’s exhibition against the Eagles.
Pickett still hasn’t fully participated in practices and, along with Joe Flacco, will not appear in the exhibition either. Tyler Huntley is, as of this writing, the only quarterback who is going to be out there for the game.
