Below we take a look the snap counts and statistics for the Cleveland Browns defense in the Week 1 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals.

  • Sack Attack: Myles Garrett (2) and Isaiah McGuire combined for back-to-back-to-back sacks late the 4th quarter to give the Browns great field position in which they ultimately not able to capitalize on. It was evident throughout the game that Garrett was closing on Burrow and he was able to get him twice on the same drive.
  • Strong 2nd Half: Despite not winning on Sunday, the Browns’ defense locked down the Bengals in the second half by only surrendering 7 total yards. It was great to see the defense have such a strong outing as they will need the same effort and even more this coming Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
  • Greg Newsome: With the injury in the preseason to Martin Emerson, Newsome was back on the outside. There has been a lot of talk over the last couple seasons about whether he is a slot corner or an outside corner and on Sunday he impressed on the outside. Newsome was matched up on Ja’Marr Chase on 10 routes and did not allow a reception but did have one DPI.
